What is MP3? Print E-mail

MP3 is a digital file format that is designed to greatly reduce the size of the files to which audio is presented. For example, our upcoming 70th Anniversary Edition of Gone With the Wind will span 43 compact discs (being over 43 hours!), however, as MP3 files we can squeeze the information down to fit 5 compact discs without a noticable change in quality. For all intents and purposes there is no discernable difference in the quality of sound that you will hear in our MP3 Audio Book editions over standard compact disc - it's just more convenient.

What do you need to play MP3 files?

MP3 offers the ultimate in audio portability and convenience, all you require is:

For Home Use:

  • An MP3 compatible CD / DVD player (check your manufacturers manual for more information)
  • A home PC with a media program such as 'Windows Media Player'

You can play the MP3 files directly from the discs, or, you can transfer the files to your PC to play when at home or to be able to transfer to your favourite portable media device as described below.

For portability:

To be able to enjoy our MP3 productions on the go you can download directly to your PC (if purchased as a digital download) or you can also transfer the files from the MP3 CD editions to your PC. From this point you can simply transfer the files to your portable media device, eg:

  • MP3 players
  • iPods
  • personal digital assistants (PDAs)

Happy listening!
