Gone With the Wind Audio Book by Redwell

margaret mitchell

Frankly, dear redwell listeners, we DO give a damn!

And we knew it would be no easy task.

Who could deliver the massive undertaking of performing 63 chapters with myriad characters voices for the redwell Audio production of Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind?” It would importantly be the world's first digital audio production of the entire epic novel set during the American Civil War era. Finding the person with the creative ability, range and stamina would be critical – and daunting.

So, in the same tradition of filmmaker David O. Selznick and his legendary quest for finding the actress who would play Scarlett OHara in the 1939 film, redwell Audio launched its own international search for finding the ideal and rare talent.

After sifting through hundreds of applicants to fulfill this huge undertaking we needed a narrator with the warmest and richest tones to make this epic novel a truly memorable listening experience. We found her - that person was Sonny Warner.

Sonny performs with a warm, naturally velvety narrative. She's beautifully engaging as she purposefully chooses inflections and phrasings unlike the ordinary audiobook fare. Sonny will have you riveted in your listening experience. With her extraordinary range, she has an effortless command of an extensive wardrobe of voices. You'll hear the books characters brought to life: from the southern belle sassy lilting of Scarlett, to the growling purr of an imperturbable Rhett Butler, to the fiery Irishman rants of Scarletts father--Gerald OHara, plus the loving scoldings of Mammy, the kindnesses of Melanie and many, many more. These dialogues ping-pong throughout the book, but Sonny always brings you back to the storylines continuance; showing a sensitivity and respect for the powerful words written by Margaret Mitchell.

Like Scarlett, Sonny's also the daughter of a planter. She was born in rural America, in Hillsboro, North Dakota – about 160 kilometres from the Canadian border-- and raised on an agricultural farm in the Red River Valley. She says she began dabbling with what her voice could do, during long hours of solitude as a teen cultivating and harvesting in the summertime barley and wheat fields.

I'd sing and talk to myself because I was confined for 10 or 12 hours in the cab of a combine (harvesting machine),” says Sonny. There was nothing to do. So I started to experiment with my voice. I also learned how to whistle with-or-without my fingers like a rodeo cowboy and I can wiggle my ears...”

We were ecstatic to have Sonny join us on this wonderful journey of producing this incredible book. She has a passion for Gone with the Wind that is authentic and true. Youll hear it! And we trust Sonnys inspired performance will stay with you for many years to come.
